5 Warning Signs

Five warning signs

A convincing-looking message is not necessarily legitimate. Watch for these red flags:

  1. Urgency. Messages that tell you to “act now” pressure you to respond quickly.
  2. Secrecy. A demand such as “don’t tell anyone” should raise suspicion.
  3. Requests to move money. Scammers may tell you to transfer funds to “protect your account.”
  4. Requests for personal information. Be wary of demands for passwords or account details.
  5. Suspicious links or contact information. Watch for questionable links in emails or texts, along with phone numbers presented as bank contacts.
